A Re-Introduction

The last experiment went so well, let's see if this new one can go any better.

Currently, starting up a new project hopefully working on with a friend in the not so distant future seeing how I don't want to give too much away, I will try and blog about the experience of creating, I guess my guidebook for the universe I wish to create.

It shall begin tomorrow when I discuss the set up.

Introduction

This is the first page and a half or so of the story, which introduces you to our two main characters.
------------
The bright rays of the sun blasted through the tiniest crack on the window on this fine Monday morning. The ticker on the computer screen noted that this was the hottest day on record in the past 35 years. A fact that was not lost on many as the beaches were extra crowded today. The start of summer was a magical time.

Well a magical time for most people. On this, the warmest day in the past three decades, Theodore M. Hills sat behind his desk. Sweat running down his face not due to the heat, but due to the extreme pressure of the announcement he was about to make.
Today, you see, would be the day that Theodore’s company finally went public with their decades of research. After a 50 year battle that wiped out thousands of humans, Theodore’s company would finally go public with a cure for the Geno Y disorder.

While this was a momentous victory for Theodore’s company, it was a much larger personal win. After discovering that his brother had been diagnosed with the disorder, Theodore took it upon himself to dedicate his life to finding a cure.

With his drive, Theodore took a small time company, which at the time only manufactured drugs, into a full laboratory which was responsible for discovery of at least two dozen different cures and treatments in the past 10 years alone.

All of this, bought the company some respect and prestige, but it was never enough for the CEO. Each successful cure was a moment of ecstasy for the company, but a moment of shame for Theodore who had been dealt another blow in his singular quest to save his brother. So it was after all of these years of setbacks and hardship that Theodore and his company finally stumbled upon, what they believed was the cure for the Geno Y disorder. And now, there just stood mere moments of time before he made himself and his brother proud.

The scene across the control could not be anymore different. In a much smaller, more quaint and homely town of Heller lived James Crystal. James proved to be very much unlike Mr. Hills, he did not have any grand ambition, he had never dedicated his life to a singular person, and he had never taken a risk.

James had lived his entire life in Heller. His office wall a plaque to his average-ness. He remembers fondly attending Heller All School for over a decade. He remembers the excitement that swept through his body when he was accepted into Heller University. He remembers asking Becky Clasp to the senior prom. He remembers his first job as a book boy at the local library on Main St. He remembers it all, and he secretly wished for a way out.

While James felt he was average at best, all of those around him saw the wasted potential, but they knew better than to tell him. Heller was, and would always be James’ home. His parents and closest friends could never figure him out. James graduated from Heller All School with a GPA of 4.00 and was class valedictorian. He ranked in the top 2% of his graduating college class, but none of this made an impression on James, who felt that his skills were nothing more than adequate.

The biggest fear that consumed James however was not his abilities but his environment. He always felt that he stood out because he lived in a small-town where he knew his milkman and his paperboy. He knew in his heart that the real world would eat him alive. This fear glued James to Heller. It paralyzed him from even thinking about going anywhere else.

It was the main reason that James now held the job he had. He entertained the thought of applying for jobs outside of Heller for about a minute, before he laughed off the assumption that any other place would want him. He barely began the job search when an offer came in from Larms Technology Labs in Heller. Without even considering other options, he accepted the position. He felt that he could do no better, and no one else would want him.

He also knew it would be an interesting position as Larms was one of the key makers of prosthetics in the world. James would begin his career in the certification department, which main purpose was to make sure a product was market ready. While Larms was a huge corporation, the Heller branch was one of their more local off shoots. It still came with the same importance, but not as much work. So it was the perfect job for James to hide under the radar with.

The Beginning

I think the summary gives you an idea of what the blog is about, but in case it isn't 100% clear shall use the first post to explain.

Simply put, November is National Writing month, and each yeah a contest is sponsored to write a novel in a month's time. I had the great honor of completing said novel last year, but in the following 13 months had never looked it over as it was written in 3 weeks and on very little sleep.

So I figured, it would be a good chance to finally see the "masterpiece" I created and do some editing now that I have direction on it. This blog will attempt to add a page or two a day from the book that is newly editted.
